Jonathan Ben-Menachem

My research emphasizes the politics of U.S. punishment, ranging from the political behavior of criminalized people to the organizational dynamics of local crime journalism. This is a mixed methods research program that includes causal inference, survey analysis, and in-depth interviews.

My work has appeared in peer-reviewed journals like the American Political Science Review, Sociological Methods and Research, Criminology, and Sociological Science.

I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Michigan Law School, where I use quantitative methods to evaluate criminal legal policy. I will receive my Ph.D. in Sociology from Columbia University in October.
