Jonathan Ben-Menachem

I’m a PhD candidate in Sociology at Columbia University, where I research the politics of American criminalization. Most recently, I published a study regarding the effect of traffic stops on voter turnout in the American Political Science Review. You can find my full CV here.

I’ve also worked as a journalist and a commentary contributor. I have primarily written about policing, incarceration, fiscal austerity, and the politics surrounding these topics. You can find some of my clips here.

I post many Tweets, arguably too many. I am also on Bluesky, and I have started a Substack for unpublished or unpublishable writing.
